Ladycliff Park

[Vision Home] [Up]

Located next to the United States Military Academy at West Point for the majority of the twentieth century was a school called Ladycliff. The Village of Highland Falls has set aside a hill between what was Ladycliff College (now New South Post) and "the town" for the development of a memorial park.  This property was set aside to commemorate the long history of the Academy/College, to honor the contributions of the Franciscan Sisters, and to celebrate the women and men who graduated from there.

Work was begun by local Ladycliff alumnae.  A large rock with a bronze plaque was put into place to dedicate the site.  Vision - Town of Highlands is now overseeing the development and beautification of the park.

Vision was given a plan for the site by landscape architect Lisa Tonneson-McCorkell.  These plans include the removal of dead trees, more gardens, a walkway of memorial bricks, benches and tables.   It was estimated that  $25,000 will be needed to complete the park plan as designed.

To date the village has removed the dead trees, and removed the old macadam pathway.  Gardens were created and maintained by Vision Volunteers.  Trees have been planted by Vision and the West Point/Highland Falls Rotary.  With a grant from the Daughters of the United States Army (DUSA) given to Vision, and other funds Vision had allocated to the project, two benches were added to the park.  Two Victorian streetlights donated by Vision, along with Victorian Streetlights the Village of Highland Falls secured from a grant to improve Main Street, have also been added to the park.  Vision worked with village government to secure a grant that reimbursed Vision for half the cost the new Ladycliff Park sign, which was installed in the fall of 2006.

In 2005 Vision sponsored the installation of a beautiful brick path.  As of November 2006 fifty-five inscribed bricks are part of the pathway.

Vision continues this full fledged fundraising campaign.    $9,000 has been donated to date, and donations in any amount are most welcomed.  A  $150 donation will secure an inscribed brick in the memorial walkway.

Help Vision continue this beautification project!  Donations can be sent to Vision, PO Box 667, Fort Montgomery, NY 10922
