Accomplishments

Just a few of our accomplishments:

Ø       The successful hosting of the Glynwood Center’s Countryside Exchange in October 1999.

Ø       The dissemination of the Countryside Exchange final report.

Ø       The formation of 4 main Committees:  Main Street, Tourism, Heritage, and Media.

Ø       Annual celebration of Winterfest since 1999 which attracted over 700 participants with a parade.

Ø       Column in “The News of the Highlands”.

Ø       The Benjamin Moore Paint Company collaborative project.

Ø       The hosting of two ecology aimed tours – annual Eagle Watches since  2000 & Signs of Spring  2000.

Ø       The establishment of Vision web site.

Ø       The development of web pages for local businesses and organizations for a nominal fee.

Ø       The membership drive attracts over 300 members – “Give us $1.00 and we’ll give you  Change!”

Ø       The revival and reorganization of the Town of Highlands Business Association.

Ø       The Spring Clean ups.

Ø       The Planting Day and Adopt -a-Garden program.

Ø       The award To Vision of a competitive Grant by the Glynwood Center to hire a  Program Administrator.

Ø       Annual collaboration with the West Point Parents’ Club on their New Cadet Handbook to advertise local businesses.

Ø       The ongoing and encouraging discussions with Orange & Rockland utilities representatives concerning the removal of utility lines along Main Street for    improvement of the streetscape.

Ø        The founding of a Farmers’ Market to be held Sundays June through October.

Ø       Annual “R” Day reception welcoming new cadets and their friends and families to our town.

Ø       The linking of Vision with the Director of Orange County Tourism.

Ø       The consultations with the United States Military Academy concerning the renovation of their Visitors Center, its design, frontage on Main Street, and a pedestrian crossing.

Ø       The joining of the National Trust Main Street Center.

Ø       The visiting of other communities who have had success in revitalization.

Ø       The hosting of Public Forums of interest to our community.

Ø       Patriot Garden phase one completed 

Ø     Brooks Pond Trail

Ø      Beautification and revitalization of Ladycliff Park.

Ø     Ladycliff Park Brick walkway
